I got a PowerMac G5 about a year ago, grabbed it to use as a secondary computer or to sell. It didn't come with a hard drive, but I finally grabbed a 250GB drive and threw it in there (after formatting to exFAT and making it a GPT). I've got OSX Yosemite installer from Transmac onto my USB drive. (PNY USB 3.0 64GB) I hold down ALT/Option and I get a screen that only shows a refresh icon and an arrow facing right. Does the hard drive need to be reformatted somehow? Can the G5 for some reason not install from a 3.0 Drive? Should I try loading the .dmg onto a DVD and installing that way?
Hello.
I am looking for advice about how to upgrade this wonderful machine and the OS. Really love it - have it since forever - 2006, I think - and hope I can still upgrade the OS to the Snow Leopard ..eventually (?).
Do I need to buy CD box set from Apple? (My support with Apple ended longest time ago.)
Do I need to change something in the computer /hardware?
Like is it a big problem that it does not have an Intel processor (sorry if this is a silly question and if I actually have such)?
Thank you!

When introduced, it was the most powerful computer in Apple's Macintosh lineup, and was marketed by the company as the world's first 64-bit desktop computer. It was also the first desktop computer from Apple to use an anodized aluminum. Tiger is generally considered the very best version of Mac OS X produced for the PowerPC. It was truly optimized for the PowerPC G4 and G5 in all aspects (even runs great on G3s) and is significantly smoother than Mac OS X 10.3 Panther on systems that support Tiger when provided with ample RAM. 1. I'm running Mac OS X, V 10.5.8, dual 2.5 GHz Power PC G5, 5.5 CB DDR SDRAM, and, have not been able to download latest Firefox after 3.6.23. What is the remedy, what are the requirements-ASAP? ThanX read more.
  2. My original testbed was a Late 2005 2.3 GHz Power Mac G5 Dual with 3 GB of RAM and two hard drives, one with OS X 10.4 Tiger, the other with OS X 10.5 Leopard. It’s my most powerful PowerPC Mac, so I figured it would be a good way to take Linux for a spin.
